Greetings dear friends! Ramadan is here and we hope that for those of you participating, it is full of joy and blessings. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. During this month, Muslims around the world abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. Many Muslims also use this month to eliminate bad habits and to generally be better people. Often times, people gather together in the evenings to break fasts communally. This is a great time for us to share some brand new recipes for our loyal readers which we’ll be posting in the next few weeks.
First, an update on what we’ve been up to. We’ve got a fancy new full frame camera to play with. You all know Zahra got skills with a camera! Have you seen the food photography on this site? She’s amazing! The first way to step up our game was upgrade our gear. I know very little about these things so she can speak to the details of her new gear in the future.
I’ve been helping a friend get a web business off the ground. I’ll have a major announcement about this in then next couple of months. It’s been quite the learning experience, working with several different people in various locales and a group of programmers based on the opposite coast. Slack and Trello are a couple of tools we’ve been using and I’d recommend to you.
Slack is a rapidly growing company that provides a group messaging service for businesses or other entities. No longer do we need to communicate via group email threads. We can have a list of different topics/threads and communicate via real time through Slack. Also, there’s the additional functionality of sending private messages and uploading and sharing files and documents. Great for small businesses or even family or school communication. Plus, it’s free!
Trello is like a web based white board. A white board you can put post it notes in different categories and label them by color. You can assign tasks to people and track progress. I showed Zahra how we’re using Trello and now she’s more of a pro than I am! We’ve started using Trello for this website and even have a board for household stuff.
Finally, congratulations to the Golden State Warriors for bringing the NBA championship to Oakland! Even though I’m a lifelong Lakers fan, I’m still happy for our town and for the Bay. Warriors fans are loyal and dedicated and have suffered through many years (decades!) of mediocrity. But the Bay has been buzzing about this championship run and it’s been exciting to be a witness to this.
